First Project

So, back in August I took on my first big project, a rolled arm bench. I bought it very cheap at a yard sale from a woman who had let it sit in her garage for a while just waiting to refinish it. I couldn't wait to get started on it!

The sun room at my house has more toys on the floor than it has furniture, so I have been slowly adding in great pieces to make it more of a family room and less of a toy and junk room. So, my project was to get the bench redone to start my sun room overhaul.

It was pretty much covered in cat hair and garage dust when I started. I went a few rounds with the vacuum cleaner before I got started. The fabric bottom was torn to pieces so I started there. After that I had the very long time consuming process of removing all of the staples and old fabric. This took about a week of pulling and prying out staples every night after my son was in bed. I thought that would be the hard part, but it was just as difficult to staple all of the pieces back in place with the new fabric. (Something that would have been impossible without my amazing mother's help and extra hands to hold down everything)

The end result was amazing! I am so happy with it, and it totally changed the appearance of my sun room from kid-centeric to mommy's corner. My sun room is not nearly done, but I am now one step closer!

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to 416 ReDesign!

My name is Beth and I have a passion for taking old worn out furniture and making it new again. I love the quality of older furniture compared to the cheaply made furniture you can buy at most places now. The only problems is that older furniture looks old! That's where I come in. From a coat of new paint to reupholstering an old cushion, I love giving dated pieces new life. So check in with me as I share my adventures of redesign.
